Brief: Provision of a new primary school building with associated external infrastructures on a new site in the heart of the Upton Development area of Northampton.
Design: The single storey building, โVโ shaped in plan, had steeply pitched roofs with an internal open ceiling arrangement and clear internal spans. Classrooms and teaching spaces were provided in the two wings, while the central hub housed the main Hall, Library and administration offices. A steel portal framed structure was developed and the roof surfaces were clad in timber and tiling, while the walls were formed from masonry and Trespa clad timber panels. Permeable paving was provided to external surfacing which allowed storm water to be discharged via soakaways while main infrastructure was drained by swales in accordance with the principles of SUDs.
The school achieved an โexcellentโ BREEAM rating.
