JPP Consulting’s involvement was to provide structural engineering design and detailing to facilitate the inclusion of a double storey height glass box extension to the rear of the adjacent museum. The glass box has structural glass fins both providing lateral support to the elevations and vertical support to the glass roof panels. The glass extension sits on a new basement structure with the glazed box tying back to a discrete three storey steel frame structure constructed up through the basement and around the perimeter of the previous double storey height glazing adorned the existing rear elevation of the museum.
78 Derngate, set in the centre of Northampton, is the only house in England designed by Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
