JOB DESCRIPTIONS

SENIOR ARCHITECT

Location:                        Milton Keynes

Hours of Work:            Part Time – 22.5 hours per week

Salary:                             Competitive (subject to experience)

Responsible to:            Director

WE Architecture are part of the JPP Group; a Multi Discipline Construction Consultancy offering a range of professional services within the construction industry. This is an opportunity to join WE Architecture in a part time role in their Milton Keynes Office.

Design and Project Management

  • Manage project from RIBA Stages 0-7, maintaining close contact with end user clients, contractors and consultants.
  • Oversee design quality and robustness, ensuring all information is fully checked prior to issue.
  • Ensure that the Company’s Project Plan is implemented and kept up to date at all stages.
  • Monitor and mentor (where required), Architects, Architectural Assistants and Technicians.
  • Hold regular project design review meetings and project completion feedback meetings.

Business Development

  • Maintain existing client relationships and cultivate new clients.
  • Contribute to ways of expanding and improving the business.
  • Assist in the preparation of PQQ submissions and fee proposals.

Resourcing

  • Contribute to project resourcing on a regular (weekly) basis.
  • Assist in the management of project costs and programme targets.
  • Ensure that accurate timesheets are submitted on time by all staff.

Health & Safety

  • Assist the Director in ensuring that the Company’s policy on Health & Safety is implemented in practice at project and office level.
  • Assist the Director in ensuring that skills and resources are commensurate with workload requirements.
  • Ensure competence and design risk assessment procedures are implemented.

Quality Control

  • Assist the Director in ensuring quality control procedures are carried out in practice.
  • Assist the Director in ensuring that the Company’s continuity procedures are effective.
  • Assist the Director in the review, update and improvement of the Company’s project operating procedures, manuals and documentation.
  • Assist the Director in ensuring adequate records are maintained and back-ups created.

Staff

  • Assist the Director to complete regular staff performance reviews.
  • Assist the Director to review staff training requirements and CPD.

IT

  • Assist the Director in ensuring that the Company’s CAD standards are implemented.

The above list of duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Experience, qualifications and attributes

  • Minimum of 5 years’ post Part 3 experience.
  • Fluency in AutoCAD LT. Revit experience preferable, but not essential.
  • Have a desire to work on a variety of project types and learn new skills to meet the needs of our clients.
  • Must be confident to liaise with clients on the phone and in person.
  • Must be pro-active in self-directed CPD and keep up to date with appropriate standards and regulatory legislation.
  • Must hold a full clean driving licence.
  • Must be prepared to travel UK wide and stay away from home on occasion.

SENIOR TECHNICIAN

Salary: Competitive (subject to experience)

Full time position

This is an opportunity to join JPP Consulting as a Civil and Structural Technician in their Milton Keynes Office, with the opportunity to cross over in to different disciplines including Architecture, Geotechnical and Environmental, Surveying and Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

Main role and duties

  • Production of CAD and Revit drawings, with the opportunity to work in other software packages as the need arises (Appropriate training will be provided where necessary).
  • Work within an established design team on a range of commercial, educational and residential projects, providing technician support in all aspects.
  • Responsible for training of others and controlling quality of drawings within the Milton Keynes Office.
  • Co-ordination with senior technicians in other offices to ensure consistent standards are provided nationwide.

Experience, qualifications and attributes

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in Auto CAD as a Civil/ Structural technician.
  • Revit experience preferable, but not essential.
  • Have a desire to work on a variety of project types and learn new skills to meet the needs of our clients.

PROGRAMMING TECHNICIAN

We are looking for an A-level school leaver for our Milton Keynes office to support our engineers in developing in-house bespoke programming.  This role is to assist our Research and Development Team in developing programming that can be used by our Engineers on live schemes.

The successful applicant may be offered the opportunity to attend college or university on a day release basis, funded by JPP.  Good communication skill and an willingness to learn are essential skills as are strong STEM A-levels.

Candidates will be familiar with the following:

Essential
.Net CLI Language, ideally C#
Used with Autocad/Revit/Civil 3d.

C# is the language we use out of choice, but other ones include C++, VB .Net, F#, J#. All can work together.

HTML and CSS
Used in the email signatures and basic website work.

Helpful
VBA
Used to automate Word, Excel and Outlook (macros).

SQL
Database query and set up (would need a corresponding SQL server).

Git/Subversion Experience, Source control Used for keeping code safe and in sync (Git preferred)

STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

Full time position

JPP is a Multi Discipline Construction Consultancy offering a range of professional services within the construction industry.

This is an opportunity to join JPP Consulting as a Civil and Structural Technician in either their Milton Keynes or Northampton Office, with the opportunity to cross over in to different disciplines including Architecture, Geotechnical and Environmental, Surveying and Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

Main role and duties

  • Lead a number of engineers and technicians within a design team, being responsible for their management and the efficient and timely delivery of their output.
  • Undertake conceptual design, as well as element analysis and design independently.
  • Undertake and manage thorough checking of technical content of work carried out by others to ensure that deliverables are correct and in accordance with all relevant standards, guidance and regulations.
  • Manage a number of projects at any one time, overseeing the production and delivery within the office.
  • Attending client and design team meetings to convey and relay key issues on technical matters, as well as programme, contractual and commercial matters, with support from colleagues and managers.
  • Ensure implementation of BIM techniques throughout all stages of projects.
  • Responsible for training of others and controlling quality of drawings within the office.
  • Co-ordination with colleges in other offices to ensure consistent standards are provided nationwide.
  • Partake in internal peer reviews and pro-actively encourage knowledge dissemination within the company.
  • Comply with company design, safety, quality, environmental compliance and procedural standards

Experience, qualifications and attributes

  • To be an ISTructE or ICE Chartered Engineer, or well on the way to achieving Chartership
  • Strong IT knowledge and skills
  • Have a desire to work on a variety of project types and learn new skills to meet the needs of our clients.
  • Have sound technical abilities and confidence, whilst knowing self-limitations.
  • Understand and confidently use a number of structural analysis and design software packages independently. These would ideally include ROBOT, SCIA, Tedds, CADS RC suite or similar.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of 3-D modelling tools including Revit and also appreciate the BIM techniques adopted within the industry.
  • Must have strong communication skills, being confident to liaise with clients, contractors and colleagues alike
  • Be able to motivate and inspire staff within their team and around them.
  • Must be pro-active in self-directed CPD and keep up to date with appropriate standards and regulatory legislation, as well as developing staff within their team.
  • Must hold a full clean driving licence.
  • Must be prepared to travel UK wide and stay away from home on occasion.

TRAINEE TECHNICIAN

This is an opportunity to join JPP Consulting as a Civil and Structural Technician in either their Milton Keynes or Northampton Office, with the opportunity to cross over in to different disciplines including Architecture, Geotechnical and Environmental, Surveying and Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

Main role and duties

  • Under supervision and support from experienced engineers and technicians, the role utilises and applies BIM techniques throughout all stages of the project. This predominantly includes production of CAD and Revit drawings
  • Revise and update models/drawings as required
  • Work within an established design team on a range of commercial, educational and residential projects, providing technician support in all aspects .Assist in team design reviews in order to evaluate design concepts and make recommendations to resolve problems
  • Work with other teams to obtain information for drawings
  • Responsible controlling quality of their drawings and other key deliverables.
  • Co-ordination with senior technicians to ensure consistent standards are provided.
  • Read and understand 2D and 3D drawings
  • Comply with company design, safety, quality, environmental compliance and procedural standards

Experience, qualifications and attributes

  • Strong GCSE results applicable to the role, which will include Maths, English and Sciences
  • Strong ‘A’ level results applicable to the role, which would ideally include Maths, and Science(s)
  • Strong IT knowledge and skills
  • Have a desire to work on a variety of project types and learn new skills to meet the needs of our clients.
  • Must have strong communication skills, being confident to liaise with colleagues as well as occasionally liaising with clients on the phone.
  • Must be pro-active in self-directed CPD and keep up to date with appropriate standards and regulatory legislation. Successful candidates will be considered for a part-time degree course funded by JPP.
  • Must hold a full clean driving licence.

GEO-ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER

Salary: Competitive (subject to experience)

Full time position

The fastest growing part of this company is its Geotechnical and Environmental division, which is involved in projects ranging from large commercial units to smaller residential developments.

This is an opportunity to join JPP Geotechnical and Environmental as it continues to grow its market share and work with a range of national clients in a multi disciplined approach.

We are looking for an experienced geo-environmental engineer to join our team.

Main role and duties

  • Design, implement and manage ground investigations for geotechnical and contamination assessments.
  • Undertake fieldwork with supervision of various site contractors, soil and rock logging, in situ testing, sampling and scheduling laboratory testing.
  • Carry out detailed qualitative and quantitative contamination risk assessments in line with current standards and guidance.
  • Carry out geotechnical assessments with detailed technical analysis and interpretation to inform foundation and pavement design, embankments, retaining walls and basement construction.
  • Liaison with clients, other professionals and regulators such as NHBC, LA, EA and BC.
  • Other duties associated with the role such as production of remediation specifications, verification and soil waste classification.
  • Responsible for training of others.

Experience, qualifications and attributes

  • Minimum BSc or BEng in geology or environmental science related degree.
  • Achieved or working towards chartership status CEng, CGeol, CEnv.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a geo-environmental engineer and ideally experience in managing a team.
  • Have excellent technical knowledge for geology, ground engineering and contaminated land.
  • Have excellent reporting, interpretation and communication skills.
  • Have an aptitude for multi-task project management in the field and the ability to modify investigations ad hoc.
  • Must be pro-active in self-directed CPD and keep up to date with appropriate standards and regulatory legislation.
  • Must hold a full clean driving licence.
